The Chills are pleased to announce they are celebrating NZ Music month in fine style!
Wednesday 5th May - The Chills at The Empire Hotel in Dunedin - 9pm Doors
In Dunedin The Empire has gone under a change of ownership and is now being managed by local musician John Fogarty (Best known for his role in Dunedin band The Knobz. They became famous in 1980 with their political song "Culture?" criticising Robert Muldoon, who was Prime Minister at the time and had stated that New Zealand's pop music was not culture.)
John from The Empire comments:“It's a great thrill for me to have The Chills coming back to The Empire, and for me it represents a reusurgence of another chapter in Dunedins musical history. For many of the Dunedin sound bands it was their home base and I look forward to hosting much more of the great talent from Dunedin and beyond.”
Martin from The Chills comments:“This is exciting! The Empire Tavern, where most of us Dunedin bands from the early Eighties played some of our finest gigs, is now back in good hands - and the upstairs bar is once again ready to become the home to wonderful live music! We, The Chills, are honoured to be the group lucky enough to lead off this new era in the old "Bavarian Bar" with a gig on the 5th of May and we will be supported by a marvelous new Dunedin group - Idiot Prayer (Featuring Tim Smith from Carriage H, whom I have known since he was a young boy.)”
Co-inciding with this event on May 5 www.nzmic.org launches with a celebration of the new 128 Channel SSL recording desk installation at the Albany Street Recording Studios in Dunedin. NZMiC is a joint venture between the University of Otago and www.dunedinmusic.com
This state of the art installation promises much and further puts Dunedin on the world map as a true centre for musical excellence. The Chills feel this is another great reason to celebrate NZ music month.
