The Artist Collective is back up and running for 2012, and are bringing you a night dedicated to 'D.I.Y in the NZ music industry'.
This night is for all 'up & coming' bands, artists, managers, promoters, event managers, and anyone else wanting to know a little more about the NZ music industry, from those that have done the hard yards themselves.
With guest speakers:

Francis Kora (Bass, samples & vocals for NZ band KORA)
Marcus Powell – (Guitarist of Blacklist [formerly Blindspott])
The panel will be speaking on their experiences in the industry, what to do/what not to do, offering tips & advice + answering audience questions.

Arch Hill Recordings, the label, was born out of a studio called Arch Hill Studios, based on Auckland New Zealand's Great North Rd. In late 1998 a bunch of musicians who had all had previous connections with one another, were recording at the studio. Ben Howe was not only band Superette, but has helped grow the label to sign icons such as David Kilgour, Don McGlashan, The Clean, The Bats as well as up and coming artists like Street Chant, Surf City, Family Cactus, Ghost Wave and others. In 2008 Ben set up Arch Hill Publishing working in a publishing capacity with many of these artists.
In 2006 Ben also started working with international bands through the touring company Mystery Girl Presents, bringing out artists such as Pavement, Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, Fleet Foxes, Stereolab, Joanna Newsom, Iron & Wine, Catpower, Interpol, Jose Gonzalez and more... Ben is also a partner in St. Jeromes Laneway Festival Auckland and is responsible for booking bands for this event.

Experimental rock/funk collective KORA are a 5 piece band with huge live presence, vocal harmonies sailing on a powerhouse rhythm section.
KORA have performed at The Big Day Out 3 times: in 2007, rocked the mainstage in January 2010 & in 2011 they are featured alongside Tool & Primal Scream. Other performances include Rhythm & Vines, Soundsplash, Splore & WOMAD UK, WOMADelaide & WOMAD NZ. They have played with the likes of Spearhead (Michael Franti) & Shihad.

Marcus was the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of one of NZs leading Nu-Metal Rock Bands. Blindspott began in 1997 and developed a loyal following in the years leading up to their self titled album release. Blindspott, their self titled debut album, was released in 2002 and reached number 1 and went platinum in New Zealand in its first week of release. It is presently triple-platinum.
Their second single from their 2nd album, Drown, was released on May 1, 2006 and entered the official New Zealand music chart on May 7, 2006, going straight to number 4. End the Silence was released shortly after in New Zealand on May 29, 2006 and broke New Zealand music records - in the first week of release it went straight to Number 1 on the official New Zealand music charts. Blindspott are the first New Zealand music act to have both their albums debut in the charts at Number One. In August 2006, Blindspott played at the Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo, Japan, alongside major acts such as Metallica, Deftones, Linkin Park and Tool.
