Gig Information

Drawing together a remarkable collection of songs concerned with the wry black humour of the passage of time and the tricks played by memory, revered electric guitarist & singer Tom Rodwell has a style like no other. His sets transform the raw and threadbare into the riotous and the hypnotic, peppered with a deep calypso, gospel and blues vibe.

“For me the real content of a song is the feeling,” says Rodwell. “Consciously or not, we’re all searching for that feeling.” His playing features none of the filigree of modern rock, instead hooky rhythms and eerily vocal-like leads dominate - cutting to the emotional core and dance-floor function of a tune.

Hip yourself to the laid-back minimalism of a guitarist called on - with his cult band Storehouse - to support the likes of Leon Russell, CW Stoneking, Derek Trucks and Trinity Roots, and as a session man and producer to collaborate with legendary songwriter Don McGlashan, and musicians from fields as diverse as avant-garde jazz and psychedelia.

Metro: “Soul-probing...raw, avant-garde improvisations.”

NME: “Tom Rodwell is Sheffield’s answer to Lightnin’ Hopkins.”

Derek Trucks: “Beautiful tunes, beautiful groove. You don’t hear that anymore.”

alternative, blues, soul/funk, world, Tom Rodwell
