KAIZEN is the brainchild of Leon Davey, and comes from his love of Jazz, Hip Hop, Dance Hall & J Dilla.
Ever since he was 12, him & his cousin Tyna Keelan used to dream of playing Jazz in bars and restaurants in the Waikato, but they didn’t want a bar of it.
So 25 years later after touring the world playing percussion and singing and writing with the mighty Katchafire, the time has come to fulfill a passion that was always gonna come around full circle.
The inspiration to create this band also comes from producers and beat makers who create beats that can stand on their own without any vocalist or MC, and is a tribute to their commitment to their chosen craft.
The band used to go by the name ‘The Movement’, and was just recently changed because of a reggae band who just happened to have the same name.
The name KAIZEN comes from the Japanese words ‘Kai’ which means ‘change’ & ‘Zen’ which means ‘good’, hence the phrase ‘continuous improvement’, which represents and embodies what KAIZEN is all about.
Every show is going to be an experience for both the musicians who want to push both their limits, and those of the listeners who are wanting to experience a new sound.
