We’re proud to present two rising band-leaders making their CJC debut in a double-bill of the next generation of kiwi jazz.
Micheal Nash: Sik Wu
Michael Nash is excited to present Sik Wu, a new trio who will be playing some of Michael's recent compositions and tunes from the jazz repertoire.
Sik Wu is the phrase exclaimed upon winning a game of Mahjong, a game which involves the exchange of tiles between players in order to create a perfect hand. The band takes musical inspiration from this game; one player puts down an idea which another player picks up, the music flows from this interplay.
FEATURING
Michael Nash - piano
Wil Goodinson - bass

Charlotte Barrand
Charlotte Barrand presents a fresh set of original tunes. Despite being an alto saxophonist herself, she is influenced by tenor legends such as Wayne Shorter, Pharoah Sanders, and Joe Henderson. Charlotte and her band have spent time playing together over the past year, settling into a conversational approach to improvised music.
