Gig Information

Enjoy a night of art and entertainment with a culture-loving crowd in the heart of the High Street District as part of Late Night Art, from 5pm - 9pm at Freyberg Place. The space will be filled with sound, and neon lights in trees and plenty of fun!

Ngariki | 5PM-9PM

Ngariki is an MC, singer and songwriter born from the long curve of Aotearoa's East Coast & offers soulful songs and friendly banter. His lyrics are made up of sad, soulful stories from his friends, melodies from marae shed party days and banter from his mum. Ngariki will entertain the crowd between acts and ensure everyone feels welcome to join in on the activities offered. Ngariki will be playing original and well-known cover songs.

Grantis | 5PM-6PM

BaseFM's DJ Grant 'Grantis' Apiata has had long-standing residencies across the city, playing in PSC and Shy Guy. He brings a selection of dance, and other upbeat genres to get you moving!

Love Square - a new band from Nick Atkinson | 6PM-7PM

Love Square is a trio of musicians, who take you on a jazz journey from the basements and back-roads of Addis Ababa to the pulsating highlands of Bolivia. From the Caribbean to the Pacific, they groove, cha-cha and they cumbia across the stage till the whole house is moving with energy!

Nick Atkinson brings his range of saxes for Late Night Art, and sometimes plays the keys. Though Finn Scholes has no trouble playing his trumpet alongside his electric piano in union! Both bring full hand percussion, bongos, congas and many horns! Alistair Deverick bangs the drums, and you have to see this guy cook to understand why he's got the seat in Lawrence Arabia, Carnivorous Plant Society and the Come Together band.

Psycho Gab | 7:15-8PM

Psycho Gab is the neo-soul, jazz and RnB collaboration between Rosetta Stone (vocals), Caleb Wong (keys, production), Orlando Cooper (bass, production), Finn McNeill (drums) and Max Henley (guitar).

Formed in early 2023, Pyscho Gab is the force that challenges everything you thought you knew about good music. Their debut single 'Messy' was released and saw love from across Aotearoa. The self-recorded, produced, mixed and mastered single explores the complexities and insecurities of modern relationships through raw and honest lyrics. With a tight ensemble of jazzy keys, smooth guitars, playful bass and drum grooves. Other singles released were ‘Gabben’ and ‘Pianomen’.

Aunty EI | 8PM-9PM

AUNTY El loves the way DJing allows her to express her identity, while also bringing diverse communities together through the love of music. AUNTY El’s taste in music knows no bounds- her sets span across the many dance music genres, making every set memorable and unique.

She has played at some of New Zealand’s most prolific dance music events such as, Rhythm and Vines, Rhythm and Alps, Homegrown 2023 and 121 Festival along with MCing and Hosting events such as The Department of Arts Working Late and Boiler Room TV.

Weta Workshop| 5PM-9PM

As part of Late Night Art, the Weta Workshop crew are throwing open their tightly guarded red door and bringing creative chaos to the streets of Auckland! Be on the lookout for roaming robots—they may descend upon the city when you least expect it...

Wētā Workshop Unleashed is located in the Sky City precinct and is an award-winning, immersive movie making experience. Open beyond Art Week, be sure to step inside to journey out of this world and get hands on with film special effects, props and encounter extraordinary characters from animatronic monsters to robots and giants.

Part of Art Week, delivered by Heart of the City and is proudly supported by Auckland Council and the city centre targeted rate.
