This week featuring local saxophonist, back in town briefly from Greece, James Wylie
A modern look at the saxophone-organ trio tradition through the prism of original compositions by James Wylie and Miles Crayford. Joining them will be long-time collaborator, drummer Mike Jensen.
Miles Crayford and James Wylie have been musical brothers since their teenage years and their influence on each other has been central to their artistic worldview. Since that time, their individual paths have diverged, been enriched and new musical identities have been forged. This meeting will be the first time playing together in more than ten years (and Wylie's first appearance in Wellington in as many years) and will feature a range of newly composed orginal music by both musicians. For this performance Crayford will be performing on Hammond organ and Wylie on tenor saxophone - a nod to their childhood trio which was active in and around Wellington in which Mike Jensen held down the drum chair. This is a rare opportunity to hear this group due to James Wylie being based in Europe for the last 15 years. Not to be missed!
