His improvisations consistently reveal an immersion in the tradition balanced with a fearless, joyful and searching personality of his own.” - UK Jazz News
After releasing his last album 'Elegant Calamity' to a sold-out crowd at last Wellington Jazz Festival, flamboyant saxophonist Oscar Lavën makes his return to the Rogue and Vagabond this festival to release a brand new album, 'Flamingovision'.
Oscar Lavën has played with many notable artists such as John Beasley's MONKestra, Steve Gadd, James Carter, Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine, Lalah Hathaway, Clay Jenkins and more. His effervescent style draws on an eclectic musical background of early swing music, New Orleans traditional, straight-ahead, spiritual jazz, classical music, blues, and 50s bar-walking rock and roll sax.
Prepare for a colourful, kaleidoscopic performance featuring James Illingworth (piano), John Rae (drums), Michael Taylor (trumpet) and Patrick Bleakley (double bass) as they play through the album live in an exciting release of new original New Zealand music.
