Plenty of people were won over by Simon Maclaren’s bands Loves Ugly Children and The Subliminals, and now his outfit Psychic Maps are having the same effect.
Punk, sonic pop and thrash vie for space in the Psychic Maps sound, recently served up across the airwaves as a slice of feedback-drenched bubblegum pop entitled Never Gonna Hold You Now.
The recording taps into various areas of Maclaren’s musical DNA: part now/part 90s/part noise/part never sounded better.
The Psychic Maps trio head to Auckland from their home base of Wellington for a show at Auckland’s Whammy Bar on Saturday December 8th.
They’ll be joined by Auckland noiseniks Sports, themselves fresh off an “extensive” two date North Island tour with Proton Beast.
Rounding out the bill are Hypnic Jerk, a garage pop outfit led by a founding member of Maclaren's post-Subs band Sleepers Union.
