Another year of mad parties, awesome people, dope music and mind-blowing internationals - it’s time for our 4th birthday rinse. Thank you all for being a part and helping us stay alive and kicking four years on. We’re not slowing down anytime soon and would like to celebrate by putting on a young artist of incredible talent and cutting-edge production form. Saturday March 23rd, Cassette Nine & Sick Disco proudly presents XXYYXX for an exclusive NZ show.
=============================================
Seventeen year old Florida native Marcel Everett has shown maturity far beyond his years. His prolific output of eclectic, vivid electronica conjures a broad spectrum of emotions and visions; desolate landscapes, moments of intimate warmth, serene sadness and transcendent beauty.
While mentioned alongside the likes of J Dilla and James Blake, Everett’s persona resists precise definition. The XXYYXX moniker is one of anonymity allowing the music full focus. The reassuring warmth of classic 808 beats are offset by mercilessly messed up vocal samples, swooning skywide synths and punchy sub bass lines. The overall sound palette is one of many disparate colours captured in subtle harmony.
The music has spoken for itself; XXYYXX has garnered high praise on influential publications such as XLR8R, Earmilk and Indie Shuffle. Everett’s self-titled sophomore album has been released by Relief In Abstract Records with numerous singles and remixes appearing on labels such as Kitsune and Dandelion Lotus Records. Thanks to a frenzied international touring schedule and an ever-evolving discog, XXYYXX has over fifteen thousand Facebook likes and Soundcloud listens numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
Armed with laptop and sampler XXYYXX’s live show knows no bounds, venturing from explosive sonic territory to contemplative ambiance to dance floor bangers. Everett’s live shows are defined by his youthful energy, showing no fear on his musical journey.
