Ahoribuzz bio:
Ahoribuzz is the solo project and brainchild of Aaron Tokona (Weta, Cairo Knife Fight and Bongmaster). The band was formed in early 2007 with the intention to bring a group of friends together, book a date at a venue, turn up on the day and play the gig. A lot of my friend's had time off from their respective band's, so it seemed like a good way to catch up with everyone. It was a way to bring everyone together in a no stress musical environment, to get back to the basics again. Just turn up and play!- Tokona.
A pretty ballsy thing to do except that all of the musicians involved included members from Fat Freddy Drop, The Blackseeds, Phoenix Foundation and Twinset and whoever else! Needless to say that first gig was the first of many to come and from that point the band and more importantly its music has evolved and developed into a solid working entity. Since its inception Ahoribuzz has toured and played support gigs with Fat Freddy's Drop, Tiki, Shapeshifter, Rhombus, and Salmonella Dub.
Ahori buzz has also had the pleasure of gracing the stage's of – Rippon Festival, Kaikoura Roots, Homegrown, Splore, Matakana Festival, Rhythm and Alps and Rhythm and Vine's Festivals. From time to time Ahoribuzz is made up of members of these bands as a collective. Presently Ahoribuzz is made up of seven core members Aaron Tokona (guitar vocals), Hori Pirere (Bass), Henare Kaa (Drums) and Hollie Smith (Keys/Vox), Laughton Kora (Gat/Vox), Ben Fulton (Gat), Tim Driver (Synths) Ahoribuzz has released two tracks, 'Glitter in the Gutter' & 'Turnaround' to radio and on itunes. Both tracks have been well received and continue to enjoy radio airplay on the BFM networks. Recently 'Turnaround' has been added to the ZMFM network.
'Sugar', Ahoribuzz new single is a epic mixture of soulful infectious Hori funk backed by some of New Zealand's musical heavy weights. Hollie Smith and Laughton Kora lend their musical prowess to the Hori fold and offer stunning vocal performances. Jonathan Crayford adds the cream that any good Hori cake needs and all of this comes together under the production endowments of Riki Gooch.
2013 will see Ahoribuzz first album release, plus an up and coming tour with New Zealand's beloved son's Shapeshifter.
