The Street Party has been postponed and will now be held Friday 28th June. This bad weather has made it unsafe and unappealing to hold the street party and we are pleased to have the possibility of a postponement for one week. Most other events in the festival continue as scheduled, but please check our website for any changes
The Lyttelton Harbour Festival of Lights runs over four days, 20th – 23rd June, with the spectacular street party on Friday 21 June from 5:30pm. The programme encompasses music events, dance, kapa haka, workshops, circus, food and wine, documentary and feature film, art exhibitions and, of course, the brilliant Lyttelton Port of Christchurch Fireworks display.
This year, the festival boasts a jam-packed programme with a wide variety of events in Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour.
Once again, the Lyttelton Harbour Festival of Lights offers a great opportunity to show-case Lyttelton's much-loved and much-pized local musicians: the Greyhounds, The Eastern, Lyttelton AhoriBuzz, Devilish Mary, Carmel Courtenay. Enjoy live music and great food and drink any night of the festival at one of Lyttelton's wonderful venues – Tommy Chang's, Freeman's Dining Room, Roots Restaurant, the Wunderbar or the Porthole.
Friday night all are welcome to the street party, a night of delicious food and drink, fun with face painting and activities for kids, great music and performances including the Harris and Turner London Carnivale, the opportunity to reflect and celebrate the soltice with a walking meditation on the Labyrinth provided by Women's Sacred Mysteries, and the highlight of the evening the Lyttelton Port of Christchurch Fireworks display.
On Saturday you might want to browse the Lyttel Book Fair and learn how to make new craft objects out of old books. Enjoy the Farmers Market Midwinter Xmas with warm food and drink before trying out a contemporary dance, yoga or singing workshop. Stay and take a guided walk around the township to see the light displays, or take the ferry to Diamond Harbour, have a meal and warming drink at Godley Cafe before dancing the night away to contemporary world music band Mundi at the Diamond Harbour hall.
On Sunday you're invited to a late lunch of wood-fired pizza at the Community Garden. Lyttelton's own Lift Library will be screening “In Transition 2,” a film featuring Lyttelton itself. You can indulge in a Medieval Sunday Roast at Tommy Chang's and then wrap up warm for the screening of Peter Jackson's “The Frighteners,” another film featuring Lyttelton, outdoors on London St at Coffee Culture.
