SAILOR JERRY AND MUM PRESENT:
+ SURF CITY (ALBUM RELEASE PARTY)
+ CARB ON CARB
+ CAROLES
Surf City recently released their sophomore album, We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like on Arch Hill Records and this Friday, September 20th, theyre playing Cassette Nines MUM night to celebrate. Following on from their critically acclaimed debut full-length, Kudos, and their 2008 self-titled EP, We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like This is a scuzzy, Dunedin-influenced conversation about things/life - as the title suggests - not turning out as promised; alienation, disillusion, all of that. Those themes are specifically prevalent on singles like NYC, where both the sonic tome they draw from and the aforementioned themes come together in what Consequence of Sound described as the band capturing both the sizeless wonder of the Big Apple and the potentially disenchanting nature of that magnitude. Howzat for some casual international endorsement.
Auckland duo carb on carb have just announced they will be embarking on a joint tour of China alongside god bows to math and Australian group Pairs. Come see them live / wish them farewell before they head off on their overseas jaunt.
Noise-punk trio Caroles just released their debut full length album Hollow Trophy, which you can stream (+ read an hilarious interview in which they describe Caroles as three dudes on jetskis smoking weed and eating pizza) over at UnderTheRadar.co.nz - http://www.undertheradar.co.nz/news/7004/Album-Stream-Caroles---Hollow-Trophy--Interview.utr
