Gig Information

It's been over 2 years but Callum is finally doing a tour south, with the final night going down in old home town Wellington. He'll be playing with the divine Emily Fairlight (she's bringing her full band line-up) & folk artist AlbertK. Thanks also to the wonderful Jo Hanna for hosting this wee gig.

CALLUM GENTLEMAN

Troubadour, Trouper, Raconteur, Impresario, Showman, Cheeky Bugger, Murder Ballad Lover. Callum Gentleman writes stories. Those stories usually come out as songs. Songs about good people doing bad things, & bad people who try to be good (they often fail). Fallen Angels staring to heaven, contrite demons yearning for redemption, down & out junkies scrounging for a dollar, the devil gets it on with the wrong hooker with a heart of gold. From the child's whisper to the drunk man's roar, Callum gives a voice to them all. The Gentleman has lived. He's almost died once or twice, but he didn't, so he can tell those stories too. He puts on a gig called Snakeskin Suitcase & a weekly jam at one2one cafe. His sound has been described as elevator music for the rehab clinic, will appeal to lapsed catholics, practicing mormons and any who make vagrancy their goal.

The EMILY FAIRLIGHT BAND

Within the world of wonderlandesque folk (but not as you know it) music, or perhaps folklesque music created by Emily Fairlight, fitting into stereotypes or specific scene requirements isn’t an option. A few influences are Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Laura Veirs, Laura Marling, Patrick Wolf, Oh Land, Cat Power, Beruit, Iron and Wine....

ALBERTK
Dark folk artist AlbertK will start the night off. Have a listen to him on bandcamp. All recorded in a room, at all hours of the night.

And while you're at it, do check out the music of our lovely host Jo Hanna (she isn't playing Friday, but check it out anyway)
