Gig Information

Warren Maxwell - always involved in compelling projects – believes that music touches and heals the soul. On Thursday, November 7, his trio ‘Vanilau · Maxwell · Baker’, three of the country’s most distinctive, soulful voices and songwriters, will play at Masterton’s King Street Live. “We wanted to collaborate with a focus on vocal harmony, reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash but with contemporary elements and original songs from three Antipodean minstrels”.

Warren never stands still in music. Best-known for Trinity Roots, Fat Freddys Drop and Little Bushman, he recently co-composed the concerto ‘Pounamu’ with John Psathas, has worked with both the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia and more recently, spent time tutoring songwriting in Rimutaka Prison for Maori Television’s ‘Songs from the Inside’.

Mark Vanilau, a multi-instrumentalist with a distinctive, velveteen voice, has worked with New Zealand’s best: he is a regular member of Dave Dobbyn’s band, played on Hollie Smith’s album, performed with Riki Gooch in Eru Dangerspiel and has been in bands with Ladi6 and Scribe. He has recently toured with ‘Fly My Pretties’ & just released his second single ‘Simplicity’ from his up-coming E.P.

Young Wellingtonian Louis Baker brings a rich vocal style to the mix and is known for his ability to move a room to a complete stand-still with his soulful vocals and endearingly honest lyrics. Louis’ solo career is one man and a guitar, “I love the vulnerability of being there alone, but being part of this trio brings a new experience.”
