April concert at Acoustic Routes' new venue - ADAM PIGGOTT AND JAYNE FREEMAN
- Roseneath School Hall, Thursday, 24 April, 8 pm

UK folk and Americana songwriters Adam Piggott and Jayne Freeman will be initiating our new venue as part of their tour of New Zealand.
Adam and Jayne have been performing musicians for 20 years. They have been regular guest artists at The National Theatre in London, appeared on BBC Radio 6 Music and played a UK theatre tour as part of the Bohemia Ukulele Band. They have released two albums of original material over the past two years.
This guitar-ukulele duo showcase their song writing alongside fresh interpretations of often unexpected classic songs. With strong influences from country, folk, blues and jazz their sound has been described as a mix of Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Debbie Harry and Ry Cooder with a modern Nouvelle Vague twist.

Opening the concert is Lost Bird, the musical pseudonym of Wellington-based singersongwriter Ali Whitton. Born in New Zealand but raised in the UK, Whitton used to play under his own name throughout ten years of gigging that took him regularly touring France and
the UK. Highlights include being a regular on the bill alongside the then relatively unknown Ed Sheeran. In 2010 Whitton left the UK and returned to New Zealand, taking a big step back from music. He started gigging again under the name LOST BiRD in 2012 and entered himself in the NZ Battle of the Bands, which took him to the National Final, as the only solo act there.
Musically, it is his lyrics and songwriting that stand out above the alt-country/folk stylings. This comes across live in a very special and unique way with Whitton's aloof and witty between-song ramblings which endear the audience into listening intently to the poetry that he sings. Often likened to early Bright Eyes, this is an influence Whitton will readily admit.

Entry: $15, $10 Acoustic Routes members and students
