The 91 Club presents: Shocking Pinks with Opposite Sex and Kane Strang
Nick Harte
the creative maelstrom behind Shocking Pinks, emerged in 2004 with the release of Dance the Dance Electric on Pinacolada Records. Subsequent signings on Flying Nun Records and DFA RECORDS cemented his position as one of New Zealands most promising alternative talents. After a long hiatus, the release of the Shocking Pinks triple album Guilt Mirrors on Brooklyns Stars & Letters Records should be considered one of the most daring and innovative musical offerings of 2014. Shocking Pinks currently play as a 3 piece live band. Dance punks rejoice.
Opposite Sex
burst onto the scene in 2011 with the release of their eponymous album via Fishrider Records. The album received critical acclaim from all over the world, with reviewers captivated by their unique, exciting, ragged debut. Think post-punk, with a twist of sour psych-pop and a spoon of whirly swoon and youve got Opposite Sex.
Kane Strang
is a young Dunedin instrumentalist who has produced some astoundingly good recordings in recent times. His album A Pebble and a Paper Crane, released in 2013, has fast become an instant Dunedin classic. This psychedelic folk pop bard is regarded as one of our citys most promising talents.
