Gig Information

Rock along to see an upbeat, inclusive mix of musicians from across the mental health spectrum.

The gig is a fundraiser for Alpha Art Gallery which is an inclusive gallery in the heart of Wellington. All money raised will go towards the improvement and development of facilities at the Gallery. Although the gallery is independent, it is run in the same space as Alpha Art Studio, which is a vocational base for adults with intellectual disability run through Idea Service.

We are thankful to the four amazing bands who have generously donated their time and talents for us.

Integration and inclusion in the community are an important part of what we are doing with Alpha Art Gallery, and with the bands that will be performing.

Our vision for the future is one of inclusion where you see non-disabled people and disabled people working alongside each other, partying together, learning from each other and creating art together - and through the work we do at Alpha Art Studio and at events like this, we are striving to make that the norm! be a part of it!

Mr. Handsome- are a 60s/70s/80s covers band, based around a drummer named Duncan Armstrong. Mr. Handsome have also played gigs at parties, and are regulars at the People's First AGM and more recently as the house band for Alpha Galleries opening!

Sendam Rawkustra -are a drum group that includes people with intellectual disabilities and consumers of mental health services. SENDAM RAWKUSTRA is recognised regularly performing at the Newtown Fair and at various other performances around town, from bishop’s inauguration to experimental music festivals!

The Balkanistas are a giant gypsy band, who won a spot at WOMAD this year. Led by percussionist Andreas Lepper, they play infectious dance music like you would not believe.

The Melting Faces play epic, psychedelic, heavy blues rock, soaked in delay and trippiness with a couple shots of folk and funk to wash it down. They also have a new EP hot off the press.
