Bunnies On Ponies

Encouragement

Saturday August 23rd The Boat Café, Freyberg Lagoon – Oriental Bay

In association with Slow Boat Records, Dictaphone Blues invite you to come aboard and say “AHOY” to the good times. This will be a special night of musical exuberance and encouraged merriment aboard the Boat Café in Wellington’s Oriental Bay. It’s time to shimmy and sway with the lapping waves to the sound of New Zealand’s finest indie groups as we all set sail for the good times and beyond! Onboard bar facilities will be operational to aid in your refreshment and deck access to get some air will be available.

Last time Dictaphone Blues were in town it was for the Newtown Festival 2013, so it’s been a long time betwixt drinks, but fear not dear Capital, you are one of their favourite ports even when in storm, and the lads are well excited to boast their new wares and old faves to your eager ears at AHOY!! The first offering from the imminent new album is Her Heart Breaks Like A Wave, a chiming slice of guitar pop that has been riding high on the nation’s airwaves and getting fans frothing hard for some more. Well, here’s your chance Wellington.

Bunnies On Ponies (the solo guise of Samuel Scott of The Phoenix Foundation) are no strangers to the stage. With a collective pedigree that would make any prize horse stud nervous, Sam enlists long term TPF’er bass player Tom Caldwell and skinsman Craig Terris (Craig Terris Band, Cassette) to fully realise his songs in the aural realm. With two critically acclaimed albums under his belt and a new offering in the can, their set at AHOY!! is sure to start a swell of enthusiasm for the next instalment, which will ripple through our antipodean summer.

This will be Wellington’s first chance to catch Matthias Jordan (ex Pluto,
Nightchoir) as he journeys down the country from Auckland to play a selection from his first EP The Sound Of Asia and more. The soaring five-track offering sonically nods to Jordan's ardour for hang-gliding while encompassing 1980s electro-pop and tones of the digital orient, created by layering the sounds like an electronically-generated Japanese koto through the songs.

Opening proceedings at AHOY!! will be a band so new, so fresh, and so unheard, that this will literally be their maiden voyage. It’s a pleasure to introduce to you Encouragement which comprises of Adam Ladley and Holly Beals of Family Cactus and James Duncan (SJD, Punches).

Limited tickets are a mere $15 available online at www.undertheradar.co.nz
