If you were a fan of nights out in Christchurch in the 90’s you’ll remember Gorilla Biscuit, the legendary covers band-of-brothers who played their epic sets of classic rock and pop tunes. The majority of their songs would be played “GB-Style”- a reference to learning songs on the fly live during their gigs – the audience would ask and the boys would deliver.
They were only 18 then and probably so were you, as they played their way across the cities bars, most often at the Dux de Lux.
Among the founding members of Gorilla Biscuit were winners of the very first National Smokefree Rockquest in 1990. After playing together as Gorilla Biscuit a few of the guys went on to form APRA Silver Scroll winning band Opshop one of New Zealand’s premiere rock acts. Other members have made careers in TV including presenting on What Now and New Zealand’s Got Talent.
Their hometown of Christchurch was where it all started for these guys, still a tight knit group of friends with a passion for performing - so as the saying goes in muso circles - “we’re getting the band back together” from across the country for a one off gig at The Dux Live on Friday 8th August.
Performing all the old covers with a sprinkling of originals, and featuring the original line up of Jason Kerrison, Clint Harris, Jason Fa’afoi, Leighton Faulkner, Aubrey Tupai, Jason Kokiri, and Vahid Qualls, the guys are really looking forward to playing again at the Dux-de-Lux in its new form The Dux Live.
So all of you Gorilla Biscuit fans, book the baby sitter, and get ready for a blast from the past. Tickets are only $10, and are on sale now from www.eventfinder.co.nz
