“We can bring it on the floor you've never danced like this before”
The Kassel, Germany duo Clemens and Philipp otherwise known as Milky Chance met in an Advanced Music Course when they were 16, and they creatively gelled right off the bat. Weaving together elegant electronic production with acoustic guitars and lilting, lush vocals, they harnessed a style unequivocally their own. Clemens puts it best, Think of it as the singer-songwriter spirit mixed with electronic beats. Somehow, it's always a little bit melancholy, but there's a positive spin. You can dance to most of it too!”
In 2013, they began work on their full-length debut, Sadnecessary – released July 2014 – and when they were finished, they uploaded several of the tracks, including the catchy Stolen Dance, with its bright handclaps, plaintive acoustic guitars, and gravelly smooth delivery. The song became a viral sensation, eventually racking up over 65 million YouTube views. It didn’t stop there, using nothing but their Facebook page to announce the shows the band soon set out on what was to become a 100+ date European tour playing to sell-out crowds at venues that increased in size as the tour unfolded and more shows were added. In New Zealand the single “Stolen Dance” peaked #3 in the charts, the album “Sadnecessary” on #14.
Now the European electro-folksters are set to bring their live show to Auckland, New Zealand in January 2015 and will be one of the must see shows of the New Year.
