Ariana Tikao (Kai Tahu) has just released Kia Mataara. The single has been eagerly anticipated by Tikao’s fans and will be supported by a multi-date tour of the South Island, and Wellington, starting in Wellington on 1 November at 6pm at the Futuna chapel in Wellington, and at Paekakariki on Sunday 2nd Nov, 3pm.
Kia Mataara is the first new release from Ariana since her album “From Dust to Light” (2012) and is available at Bandcamp/
The new waiata is dedicated to and inspired by Ariana’s teenage daughter and money raised from the sale of the single will be donated to the charity KidsCan.
Kia Mataara is a hauntingly beautiful song has at its heart a call to all young women to, as the title says, ‘be alert and vigilant’ and to be strong within themselves. “It’s a message to stay true to yourself and stay strong in the face of whatever is to come,” says Ariana.
Ariana will be accompanied by Christine White, Al Fraser and Charley Davenport and Amiria Grenell will be doing support slots for her first two shows this weekend.
Funds raised from the sale of Kia Mataara will be donated to KidsCan. KidsCan exists to meet the physical and nutritional needs of Kiwi kids less fortunate than others so they can be more engaged in their education and have a better chance of reaching their potential in life.
