The score:
Chambers Sessions are happy to welcome back the much loved Great North who are celebrating their second Tui award! This time they are bringing their friends along The Bads. All together it will be another great night of live music in the intimate setting of Chambers 241.
Great North
Great North is the music you listen to while you sell your children to buy grain to feed your other children. They are celebrating their second Tui award win by hitting the road with The Bads and Brendan and Alison Turner for a nationwide tour that kind of doubles as a couples retreat.
The band took out the Best Folk Album Tui for their 2014 record Up In Smoke in January, after winning the same award for Halves in 2012. They are following their latest win with a 12-date tour that criss-crosses the country from Whangarei to Dunedin. It includes their first ever shows in Queenstown, Nelson, Whanganui, Featherston and Whangarei.
The Bads
if you've never heard of Kiwi group the Bads, you've still heard of the Bads - it wouldn't make any sense for a record this accomplished to come from nowhere. The core of the group is duo Dianne Swann and Brett Adams (formerly known as the Julie Dolphin), The Bads' second album finds them in top shape, with a flawless country-indie-rocking-popping blend that doubtless led their appointment as Lucinda Williams' support act of choice. Swann's voice is magic (no wonder Thom Yorke recorded a duet with her!) though the voices in harmony are better still. Enjoy the Bads while we have them - it seems the whole world wants a piece of them! MC Cheese On Toast.
Brendan & Alison Turner
As former members of Bond Street Bridge and The Bitter Years, they developed a strange love of driving long distances across the country, playing a mix of Americana/Folk/Country/Blues, with sweet bluegrass harmonies and songs where everybody gets shot. All of this to small crowds of people for very little money.
