Vector Arena is proud to present Silver Scroll winner Tami Neilson, in celebration of the release of her new Album, Don’t Be Afraid.
Just 18 months since the release of her award winning album Dynamite, Canadian born Tami Neilson is back with what could be her strongest songwriting to date. A moving homage to her late father Ron Neilson, a man who laid the foundations for her musical career, Don’t Be Afraid takes us on a journey fuelled by Tami’s memories and experiences of loss, mourning and striking back in the face of grief. This is a powerful collection of songs which conveys a defiant fierceness in Tami’s performance.
The first single off the album ‘Lonely’ started out as a demo recorded by Ron Neilson in 1972, outside his hotel room while on tour across Canada. Decades later, it was completed by his daughter Tami when she discovered that same demo a week after he passed away in February 2015. Such are the stories and legacies behind the songs on this very special and personal tribute.
From the opening title track ‘Don’t Be Afraid’, the last song her father ever wrote, Tami goes from strength to strength and we are left with the treasures she has collected along the way. Songs from the masterful pen of her father, her continued work with her brother Jay Neilson, co-writer of APRA Song of Year 2014, ‘Walk’, as well as co-conspirator Delaney Davidson, all fit seamlessly into this brilliant testament to one her strongest musical inspirations.
Tami, well known for her timeless, soulful voice and compelling performances will perform music from her new album at this one-off show with her band on the release date of the album.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be one of the first to hear live the much anticipated new offering from this stunning and seasoned songwriter.
‘Lonely’ - the first single from the album will be available digitally from Friday 4 September.
Neilson blends the ambience of Old West saloons with the pastel palette of a 1950s beach musical, and her soulful bellow breathes modern life into a vintage collection.
