The Yes!Fest team have actively thought about Maori concepts; Whanaungatanga and Kotahitanga, and the ways in which we are addressing them.

Whanaungatanga is relationships. Relationships that are made through shared experiences and working together which gives people a sense of belonging.
Yes!Fest was put together by existing connections and relationships coming together with a common kaupapa in mind. We are looking to continue extending this; building stronger connections and relationships between members of the Dunedin music community.

Kotahitanga is tribal unity, collective action and solidarity.
Yes!Fest was created through collectivism and collaboration. It is important to us that all voices are heard. We must work together for safer, more inclusive and diverse events within our Dunedin music community!

Te Tiriti o Waitangi includes three main principles. These are Partnership, Participation and Protection. Yes!Fest works towards these principles through...

Partnership: Between Maori and all Tauiwi. Between all genders. Between members of the Dunedin music community. We are working collectively for a common kaupapa, whilst continuing to celebrate our differences.

Participation: Part of the kaupapa for Yes!Fest is that those who are often excluded or given limited opportunities within the Dunedin music community are able to share their voice and have a place to stand.

Protection: For all involved in the event. Through our best efforts at creating a safe space we hope that all attending can feel cared for, supported, respected and protected.

He aha te mea nui o te ao He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in the world It is people, it is people, it is people.

We are continuing to learn about tikanga Maori and what we can do to appropriately earn our place alongside te ao Maori. This is a working process for the Yes!Fest team and we are committed to getting this right to ensure the safety of tangata whenua and tauiwi.
Any further input or feedback would be much appreciated.
