UTR Presents
Screamings Females
w/ Street Chant and Bozo
Friday 19th of August
Valhalla - 154 Vivian St
Doors at 8pm
This will be Screaming Females first time touring NZ, they've been featured on NPR, Carson Daly, and MTV. Vice / Noisy has done a feature documentary on their relentless touring. They've played with Garbage, Dinosaur Jr, The Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys, JEFF the Brotherhood, and more.
Equal parts Dinosaur Jr and Sleater-Kinney, the trio of Marissa Paternoster (guitar/vocals), Michael Abbate (bass) and Jarrett Dougherty (drums), ten years on, are still as hard working and viciously independent as they were when they began in 2005. Paternoster’s vocals have been likened to those of Corin Tucker in the way they wither and howl with a vibrato that blows minds time and again, while her shredding guitar abilities have seen her named in SPIN Magazine’s “Top 100 Guitarists Of All Time.”
Having notched up over one thousand shows in the northern hemisphere, exuding a frenetic energy with an almost frightening level of intensity which has seen them join stages alongside, Dinosaur Jr, Garbage, The Dead Weather and the list goes on, this year sees them make their first ever trip below the equator.

Street Chant
Following a half-decade that’s seen them tour internationally in support of bands as acclaimed as The Lemonheads, The Dead Weather and The 3Ds, as well as multiple trips to SXSW, CMJ and Big Sound, the very-long- awaited release of second full-length Hauora finds the band picking up where their lauded, New Zealand Music Award-winning debut Means (2010, Arch Hill) left off.
Though the band’s composition has gone through some changes since Means – while Edrosa and bassist Billie Rogers remain, drummer Alex Brown was replaced by Chris Varnham (Wilberforces) post-recording – their modus operandi remains progressive and active as ever.
Their latest release, Hauora, compact, energised and complex, plumbs the intriguing depths of the Urban New Zealand Condition in the early 21st century, Hauora wears the influence of the city it was made in.

BOZO
Auckland 5 piece with shake appeal. Bozo is the jangle feast with lateral beats. Topped off with the oozing warbles of random tandem vocals. Bozo dips its tentacles into realms of psychedelic freak beat, garage surf and Morricone westerns.
Bozo started as the two-piece recording project of Yolanda Fagan (Drums) and Guy forks (Guitar) of the Echo Ohs. Three stunners quickly joined in succession, widening and extending the sound into what is now a swoon worthy ruckus. Luckily enough they snapped up Hariet Ellis (Power Cruise) for a few different roles. Bass, keys and vox. Durham Fenwick (New Gum Sarn) switches between rhythm and lead guitar. And Mason Fairey (The Naenae Express and too many other bands to mention) fills out the sparse sideways drumming with hypnotizing tambourine.
The tracks released to date are recorded as a two piece. The full band are prepping for a single and album to be released late 2016 early 2017.
