The Other People is attempting the unthinkable: Write, produce, rehearse, and open an original two-act musical within one hundred days. Day One, July 26th: brainstorming began. Day One Hundred, November 2nd: opening night.
Most musicals take years to write. Scripting and staging an entire show in 100 days is a New Zealand, and almost certain world first. Ready or not, the cast of seven will perform twenty original songs over two acts on November 2nd.
Director Adam Spedding graduated from NASDA in 2014, directed the Basement Theatre’s sell-out season of the musical Twisted, most recently wrote and directed Who’s The Mother for the NZ Short+Short Festival.
Writing the music and lyrics is Adam’s childhood friend Brayden Jeffrey, who studied Pop Music at the University of Auckland and was a finalist in the University’s Songwriter of the Year competition two years in a row.
The pair finished writing a full-length musical three years in the making earlier this year, but due to the large scale of the show, set themselves the task of creating another original musical that could be performed by the end of 2016.
The Other People exists to create original New Zealand work, experiment with multi-platform entertainment, and provide creative opportunities for people of all ages.
