Phil Costello and the Five O'clock Shadows ( is the culmination of the best tunes played by the best musicians sung by a born showman. The song list is the result of years of trial and error and the Shadows only play the winners, including the hits from these great singers:
Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, etc. Even Fatboy Slim ('Praise You') and The Violent Femmes ('Blister in the Sun') get the treatment. Songs include, 'New York, New York', 'King of the Road', 'Ring of Fire', 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', 'Son of a Preacher Man' and a whole bunch more.
Phil Costello and the Five O'clock Shadows isn't just a covers band and is more than just a jazz band. The band is a blend of both: great Kiwi classics (Why Does Love, Do This To Me and April Sun in Cuba, for example) with a jazz arrangement played by a three piece rhythm section. Throw in Mr Fabulous and Mr Furious on trumpet and saxophone, and you've got tunes that swing compulsively and sound like no other band.
