We may be taking the weekend off from showcases in November, but that doesn't mean the music stops, in fact, we've put together this rather amazing show with The Bering Sea supported by Louis Jarlov.
THE BERING SEA
The Bering Sea, from Auckland, NZ, combines elements of indie, baroque and post rock. Anchored in melancholy, its sonic palette ranges from the lightest of touch, piano and trumpet led songs, to all out bass and drum wig-outs.
Helmed by Gunlingers Ball founding father, Al Meharry (The Broadsides), The Bering Sea is a unique ensemble of rock and jazz musicians.
Lead instrumentation is provided by trumpeter and flugel horn player Elizabeth Stokes (The Beths, Sal Valentine & the Babyshakes). The rhythm section features Amanda Cheng (Wax Chattels) on Bass Guitar and one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent Jazz Drummers Ron Samsom (Dog - Jazz Tui winners 2015). Thomas Healy (Paquin, Tiny Ruins) is on guitar duties and Meharry provides vocals and guitar/piano.
We were lucky enough to have Alan come by and play at a showcase back in July, so for those who came along and were impressed by what they heard, here's your chance to have the full band experience, and we're telling you, they are AWESOME. They'll also be accompanied by Dave Khan for a few numbers on the night.
LOUIS JARLOV
The support act for the evening is none other than musical whizz-kid Louis Jarlov (formerly of Glory Days).
Although he's only 17, the country-folk sound he produces is way beyond his years, and has seen him play support for many a great Auckland act.
The show starts at 6pm as a showcase usually would, so make sure you get in early to grab a seat!
