Kick back in the sun and listen to some sweet bands and a bunch of awesome DJ’s. See where the night takes you. You might even get up for a little shimmy, you old devil. You deserve it.

Sun Sets is the first in a series of outdoor summer events in store for Waiheke Island, brought to you by WISE, bringing beats back to the beach at Matiatia Bay. Let 10 selectors & 3 live acts take you on a journey through the full spectrum of musical style & tempo.

Headlining the show are Auckland legends Yoko-Zuma.

Formed out of the ashes from one of Auckland’s most musically-creative hubs, Yoko-Zuna have in two short years established themselves as one of the most exciting bands in New Zealand. With their combination of unique electronic and hip-hop compositions, and a live show which is rarely bettered, Yoko-Zuna is an act with talent to burn.

With the release of their debut album, This Place Here, in 2015, Yoko-Zuna announced themselves to the greater music scene with an album showcasing a sound which hasn’t been previously seen in NZ – sub-electronic frequencies, melodic moments, and immense bass-synth-fuelled drops. The album combined Yoko-Zuna’s unique instrumental sound with some of the country’s most talented vocalists including David Dallas, Bailey Wiley and Team Dynamite, and in turn created a huge queue of willing collaborators.

Not willing to rest on their laurels, May 2016 will see Yoko-Zuna release the Luminols EP, 5 tracks which not only continues to fulfil the promise of their amazing live shows, but also show new depth and versatility to the band’s song-writing abilities. Featuring some of NZ’s biggest vocalists in P Diggs, Laughton Kora and Tom Scott, along with the fresh talents of Lukan Raisey, HEAVY and Larzranda, the EP shows a band infusing the genres of electronic/hip-hop with their own inimitable sound.

Yoko-Zuna are:
Frank Eliesa – Keyboards, Synth-bass
Swap Gomez – Drums, Samples
Kenji Iwamitsu-Holdaway – Guitars, Bass
JY Lee – Saxophones, Flute, FX
Cam Duncan – Production, Engineer

The Bay is right behind the car-park down by the ferry. You can’t miss it, certainly not on the 26th of November, listen out for the festivities that will most certainly be being had by all those peeps that beat you down there. (you can bring your kids down for the afternoon if you keep an eye on them)

Triple FFF is going to kick off proceedings with some nice and easy laid back classics to get you started for the afternoon. A little dub, some soul, smatterings of funk and general respect for the old school.

El Ninio brings an eclectic mix of Cumbia, Afrobeat, Raggaeton & music from many other sunny places to the mix.

Morrison & One40 will fill your ears with everything from atmospheric deep dub-step to soulful liquid rollers. Tunes these guys wrote on Waiheke have been picked up worldwide, and the three of them will share the decks for an hour of power that will go in deep.

R.I.A will be served up a banging party, and take it wherever you want her to, so come down early and immerse yourself in the sun & bass experience, and speak to her through movement. R.I.A Dj R.I.A (Rire In Action) started her music career as a radio jock in Sydney 2000. It wasn’t long before she was playing clubs, and bars all across town and working as a music industry professional in press, radio, PR, marketing, events and music management. RIA had residencies and played festivals in Sydney, Chamonix, Oslo, and rocked large crowds at Burning Man Navada. In New Zealand she has performed at Splore, Rhythm and Alps, Rhythms and Vines, Sundaise, Wanderlust Australia and New Zealand performing solo, and with Yoga Rhythms and The Play DJS. In 2016 she co-produced Planet Gaia DJ stage at Prana Festival.R.I.A comes with a plethora of music styles, and over 15 years experience in music. When YogaRhythms was born it created a paradigm shift for what it means to share and connect others to music. This awakening, coupled with her own yoga journey led her to discover and explore organic global rhythms, ancient new world and cosmic bass bringing a distinctive world-fusion style to her sets.

Then we roll into the live acts, with Rook kicking off proceedings with their soulful voices and melodic guitar are Rook. These local ladies can sing. Grab a bit to eat, have a chill. The night is young.

The Waiheke Island Soul Orchestra take us through sunset, with their fresh new flavours of stonking live dance music, and R.I.A will hold the fort for the main event. The Waiheke International Soul Orchestra is a nine-piece electronic/soul/funk/r'n'b collective.
A highly interactive and powerful live experience, the group incorporate live instrumentation, including drums, bass, percussion and two sensational female backing vocalists, alongside uplifting and beat-driven electronica.Old-school soul meets neo-soul, meets a melting pot of textures, sounds and polyrhythms... and they are sexy to boot! Their debut album is out in December via Aeroplane Music.

This closes the outdoor stage, when Offbeat Records takeover the club inside, just like old days. Charlie B, Gull, Sam Owen, Third Law, Lucid & Munt combine forces to go back to back to back for a 3 hour journey through Drum & Bass that spans the 15 years they have been a crew playing jungle and throwing parties together.

Coming over from Auckland' The venue is right next to where the ferry pulls up, and so just stroll over and rock on up! The last ferry back is at 12:30am, and you will see it pulling up to collect you. By that point you will have done well you trooper! Opiou is playing in town, go check him he’s mean. Probably pull up for his set at Neck of The Woods right on cue.
