Rafael Ferrer and his Afro-Cuban Jazz Quintet - AfroKan - returns to Havana this Thursday.
AfroKan* plays 100% authentic Afro-Cuban Jazz and a is collaboration between graduates of the NZ School of Music and resident Afro-Latino musicians.
Line-up includes Aryton Foote (Keyboard), Jacqui Nyman (Bass Guitar), Mikey Trujillo Rodríguez (Bongo), Rachelle Eastwood (Flute) and Rafael Ferrer Noel (Lead Vocals and Congas)
Repertoire includes compositions by Afro-Cuban Jazz greats such as Chucho Valdéz, Carlos “Patato” Valdéz, Poncho Sánchez, Rubén González and Orlando “Maraca” Valle amongst others.
*AfroKan is a Yoruba term used in Cuba meaning Afrikano de Corazón – Afrikan at Heart.
