The Christchurch Musicians Club proudly presents the Christchurch Folk Music Club Variety Concert

All supporters and club members are welcome, in fact, encouraged, to attend a night of music, fun and dance. Four great acts will perform for your enjoyment, with dynamic Barrie Clubb directing the fluidity of the night as compere.

Sarah Lawrence
At 15 years old, Sarah Lawrence is a singer-songwriter with a style that blends folk with aspects of pop and indie-rock. She gained confidence from first playing her music at the Christchurch Folk Music Club, and has since played for TV and radio around the city. Her poetic lyricism defines many of her songs, and she takes influence from artists such as Daughter, Passenger and Suzanne Vega. Sarah is becoming an accomplished performer and is not to be missed.

David Evison
A local performer who sings and plays guitar and mandolin. His musical interests cover a wide range of styles. He has played locally at the Folk Club, Greendale, and open mics and sessions at the Pegasus Arms, Wunderbar, Alvarado’s and other venues, as well as Folk Festivals in various New Zealand locations. First to Blink
Bryan “Bryz” Peters is a singer/songwriter based in Christchurch New Zealand. From his early roots in indie-rock he has ventured into the world of Americana and Bluegrass over the last decade with The Johnny Possum Band and The Bristol Dollar and discovered a love of all things with vocal harmonies attached. Lee Martin is a singer/songwriter, originally from South Africa, and has recorded two albums featuring original music, and she blends passion, storytelling and emotion in her songs, whether originals or covers. Together they create and shape beautiful harmonies, playing songs that will twist the emotions and pull at the heart strings while taking you to new heights of a perfect world and then dropping you into the deep torments of love gone wrong. An experience filled with vocal harmony and guitar playing that might just blow your mind and change your life.

The Muddy Mama Blues Band
Live and bluesy – seasoned with jazz. Tinged with the bluesy hue of song, revelling in the diverse, a bit of the unexpected, sustained by the much loved and familiar.
A concert based on musical partnerships. Judi Smitheram doesn’t merely sing about love and loss, it is a heart-felt, sultry, her performance gifted with genuine emotion, where her vocal power and obvious love of performing shine. In collaboration with Mary Ruston, the dramatic doyenne of the piano bringing tones from the keys that are a dream to listen to, where you can relax sit back and enjoy because without doubt Mary has those notes mastered. Complimented by soaring saxophone soundscapes created by Geoff Low, whose first love was jazz. He has been playing wind instruments since he was seven and is long-time friends with the recorder, saxophone and clarinet. Melanie Ross plays those bass strings like they were made to, swinging between beefy sounds contrasting with song-like qualities. The versatility of drummer Lynden Jackson is without doubt, he is consistently listenable, can add the intensity when needed and ultimately providing the dance beat for you to enjoy.
You are invited to lose yourself in some wondrous blues and jazz rhythms, the aim is simple: great music, great fun.

Join us for this concert designed to showcase talents and the love of song in a sincere spirit of musical expression.
