The Christchurch Musicians’ Club is celebrating 50 years operation, which began as a place for musicians – mainly of light music – to meet after their working engagements (or “gigs’) to enjoy each others’ company and perform on an impromptu basis ie jamming. It is an ideal time to recognise the efforts of these earlier musicians and to have a get together and swap a few lies and generally reminisce. The club at one stage had a fairly strong leaning towards jazz, but in the intervening years has embraced a number of different genres, and the celebration on 22 July at the Cashmere Club has taken this on board with three groups of musicians, including Molly’s Remedy (Folk/country/jazz) followed by the AGBB (a full sized jazz band) and culminating with a rock/pop group (The Meaniez), so that a variety of tastes are catered for.
Tickets are only $40 single or $70 double. Everybody (musician or not) is invited to join the 50th Anniversary celebration by simply calling Jan Lloyd on (021)262 5387, Warick Fussell on (021) 226 2401, Ralph Woodham on (021)063 8328 or Bert Parrant on (027)354 8155.
