I tetahi rūma e ki ana i te tāngata, no place to live 无地自容
i tetahi rūma e ki ana i te tāngata, we conclude that, '无地自容 no place to live' is the underlying mental stage we live on for those of us who are classified as overseas Chinese in Aotearoa. This psychological registry creates an emotional sense of shame and isolation which results in forces of inner resistance and self-censorship battling against one another. This is especially true for the self-conscious and cognisant Chinese New Zealanders that navigate our art and music community.
By seeing barriers and experiencing the emotional labour of self-regulation, the behaviour of having this particular event is an artistic reflection of the above notion.
Please feel free to be part of our practice as expression.
