In the months that followed the release of their now sold November 2022 vinyl 10” debut, Tāmaki Makaurau trio Half Hexagon enjoyed a glorious flurry of activity. The brainchild of Yolanda Fagan (Na Noise), Julien Dyne (The Lahaar), and James Milne (Lawrence Arabia), the band were handpicked to support indie icons Pavement, dazzled audiences up and down the country with their cosmic kosmiche, and quickly became one of the nation’s cult favourites. Then, as quickly as the mania rose, Half Hexagon seemed to vanish from the live music landscape without a trace.

Rumours began to spread of visiting international producers, of a studio built in the darkest heart of the Titirangi forest, and synth bleeps and impossible beats were said to be audible on the wind on certain stormy nights. Like Willy Wonka’s shuttered factory, quite what was going on behind those metaphorical iron gates remained unknown, until now.

Thank your lucky stars, Half Hexagon are set to return with a brand new single, Buy The Farm. According to vocalist Yolanda Fagan, Buy The Farm was written at 4am, a song born out of a nocturnal desire to kill her alarm clock. Its hypnotic arpeggios, airtight drums, and wistful synth lines all designed to aid her in the quest for sweet, sweet sleep.

With the single landing just a week beforehand, these two very special single release shows are the first the band have played since March, and with two very stacked line-ups, they’re gigs you can’t afford to miss.

Joining Half Hexagon at their Whammy Bar show in Tāmaki Makaurau are rarely seen psych rock heroes Ounce, and local electronica icon Baby Zionov, whose blend of 70s space disco, 90s happy hardcore, and forgotten video games soundtracks must be heard to be believed.

Fresh from announcing their upcoming album Neuro Death, Pōneke outfit The Spectre Collective are joining the bill at Moon, along with Creeps Record Parlour owner and beloved scuzz-surf merchant DJ Boss Man.

Tickets are on sale now from www.undertheradar.co.nz for both shows, with the band promising to electrify, mystify, and - being as it’s so close to Halloween - scarify you silly.
