High Tension Announce Debut New Zealand Shows

Melbourne punks High Tension will be unleashing their  sonic fury on New Zealand for two shows in November. The breakneck four-piece, made up of Karina Utomo (vocals), Matt Weston (bass), Damian Coward (drums) and Mike Deslandes (guitar), will be traversing through Auckland and Wellington next month off-the-back their sophomore album Bully which was released earlier this year. In early 2013 - almost out of nowhere - a music video landed on the internet and furiously peddled its way around social media with the speed of a Lolcats meme circa 2010. ‘High Risk. High Rewards’ was an unexpected uppercut straight outta leftfield. The riffage was demonic, demanding and frankly, hooky as shit. The vocals? Gloriously guttural, “like a circular saw made out of inverted crosses” (Hysteria Magazine). ‘Beautifully brutal’ Inpress Magazine agreed.

Melbourne Australia punk rock outfit High Tension are Karina Utomo (Young and Restless) Matt Weston (The Nation Blue), Damian Coward (Love Like Electrocution) and Mike Deslandes (Coerce). Their debut album Death Beat was released in 2013, the album was nominated for an ARIA the same year. Their Sophomore album Bully (released earlier this year) follows on from the intensity that was set by the 2013 release and the band has more than delivered a solid follow up, "Bully is a tight, wound up bundle of frenetic punk-rock-metal fusion built out of menacing riffs, screaming vocals laden with attitude and dirty guitars."
