Viet Cong Announce Auckland Show For January

Viet Cong Announce Auckland Show For January

Thursday 22nd October, 2015 8:14AM

Post-punk act Viet Cong are making their way to Auckland in January for a one-off show. The Calgary four-piece, which includes two former members of  Women (vocalist/bassist Matt Flegel and drummer Mike Wallace, who've joined with guitarists Scott Munro and Daniel Christianse), have been relentlessly touring the globe since the release of their self-titled debut album at the beginning of the year. However, this will be their debut performance on New Zealand soil and probably one of the last shows under the moniker Viet Cong before they change their name. Here are the details...

Viet Cong
Thursday 21st January, Kings Arms Tavern, Auckland

Tickets will be on sale HERE at UTR from 9am on Tuesday 27th October

Here's the clip for 'Continental Shelf' lifted from their debut album...

PRESS RELEASE:

Drunken Piano and Noisey present
Viet Cong bring post-punk to the Kings Arms

“Their brand of post-punk is industrial, dark, and distinctly contemporary. Rather than just reproduce music from the heyday, they mix together a smart array of influences from Krautrock to noise rock and at times even a touch of prog.” Sound of Boston reviews Viet Cong live.

Drunken Piano is proud to present the New Zealand debut of Canadian post-punk prophets, Viet Cong at the Kings Arms on Thursday 21 January.

Viet Cong have emerged as one of 2015's most acclaimed and essential new bands. Since the release of their brilliant self-titled debut LP in January, the four-piece have been criss-crossing all corners of the world, playing countless sold-out shows to rabid fans across North America and Europe, and garnering piles of enthusiastic acclaim for their tight, angular, and catchy brand of post-punk.

Pitchfork awarded Viet Cong's debut Best New Music status for it's "heavy, ingenious contraptions" whilst Exclaim concluded that its "frenzied, sharp-turn transitions are what make this band feel so vital, so alive and so different." The Guardian called it "an ambitious and rewarding debut" whilst Spin described it as"inexhaustibly fun to listen to".

This is a band that promises an epic show. Be there at the Kings Arms to be among the few Kiwis who’ll get to see them the first time they make it to New Zealand soil.
