Me First And The Gimme Gimmes Announce Two North Island Shows

Tuesday 23rd May, 2017 10:04AM

Star-studded punk rock crew Me First and The Gimme Gimmes are returning to New Zealand for two shows in October. The group, which brings together members of Lagwagon, Bad Religion and Frenzal Rhomb, are heading downunder having just released their greatest hits album Rake It In last month. The 17-song offering pulls favourites from the band's bursting (and exceptionally genre diverse) back-catalogue which has seen them tuck eight full-length albums under their belts between 1997 and 2014. Dust off your dancing shoes and put up those mohawks, here are the show dates....

UPDATE: The Auckland show has moved to the Powerstation due to demand and a very limited last allocation of tickets for Wellington will be available  from 9am tomorrow (2nd June).

PRESS RELEASE:

ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES

Featuring Spike Slawson, Joey Cape (Lagwagon), Dave Raun (Lagwagon), Jay Bentley (Bad Religion), Lindsay McDougall (Frenzal Rhomb)

Announce New Zealand Shows October 2017

Saturday 14th October – San Fran, Wellington (R18)
Sunday 15th October – Kings Arms, Auckland (R18)

Get your party shirts ready! Punk rock super-group and cover band extraordinaire, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are set to return our shores this October!

For the uninitiated, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are a punk rock all-star team, consisting of Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape on the rhythm guitar, Australian rock legend, Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall of Frenzal Rhomb on lead guitar, Lagwagon drummer and Fat Wreck utility superhero Dave Raun on the skins, with bass duties occupied by Bad Religion’s Jay Bentley, and rounded out by incomparable crooner Spike Slawson. Together, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes—an outfit that has always operated more like a beer-hall Pussycat Dolls than a regular mortal band—contain so much hot air, so much pomp, so much attitude, that it’s a wonder that these guys can still manage to pull their five individual tour buses into the same parking lot, put their differences aside and belt out the ballads without clawing each other’s eyes out. But they do, for the love of the fans, the music, and of course, the applause.

After 7 studio albums, tackling just about every genre under the sun, be it Motown, Country, show tunes, J-Pop (sung in Japanese!), these seasoned punk rock pros have triumphed on every occasion in a way only the Gimmes could.  With such an extensive and wide-ranging catalog, where does one begin?

Luckily for us, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes have set their sights on New Zealand to perform all the best hits. It’s a veritable sing-along extravaganza you won’t want to miss!
