Alien Weaponry Let Loose New Single 'Ru Ana Te Whenua'

Friday 30th June, 2017 10:28AM

Northland shredders Alien Weaponry have paid homage to their ancestors with new track 'Rū Ana Te Whenua'. The trio, which sees brothers Lewis (guitar/vocals) and Henry de Jong (drums) joined by Ethan Trembath (bass), have penned the thrash metal cut entirely in Maori which - as they explained in a statement - nods to a fierce battle at Gate Pa...

"On 29 April 1864, some 230 Maori defenders dug themselves into the hilltop at Pukehinahina (Gate Pa, Tauranga) awaiting the heaviest artillery bombardment the British army has ever delivered. The ensuing battle would see a crushing defeat for the 1700 strong British forces and would change the course of history.

"This song is dedicated to our great great great grandfather who fought and died defending the hill at Pukehinahina (Gate Pa). His name was Te Ahoaho."

Lyrics:
