Here's Five: Sydney's WDK Share A Handful Of Hectic Tunes

Wednesday 6th September, 2017 11:35AM

Having just visited our shores for a couple of shows across Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington over the last few weeks, Sydney experimental outfit WDK have left us with a sonic parting gift in the form of a Here's Five. The duo, which is made up of Jannah Quill and Laura Hunt have selected a handful of their favourite tracks that they deem pretty 'hectic' as our Aussie friends love to say. Check out their fantastic dance-friendly selections below...

1. Via App - 'Con Artist'

Via App is Dylan Scheer from the underground electronic scene in Brooklyn. It's part of this wave of confrontational punk-vibe techno, which we really love. Hard-hitting, unafraid of weird-ass sounds and fucked up sampling. This track is a fav but her whole album Sixth Stitch on Breakworld Records is amazing.

2. Jaclyn Kendall - 'čudnih zvukova'

Jaclyn Kendall is from Montreal. We chose this track because it makes you feel like you’re in a tunnel driving at 170km an hour and about to exit into a world where things are heaps better than here.

3. Zuli - 'What You Do'

ZULI’s recent release on Lee Gambles UIQ is a hectic, chopped, grime-techno banger. Every track is insane, but this one in particular recently brought us some pumping mid-jam inspiration. We are really into artists like ZULI who offer intense, visceral, anti-functional club music.

4. Andy Stott - 'Faith In Strangers'

We don’t know what else to say about Andy Stott apart from that he is a genius.

5. Simona - 'Breakfast of Champions'

Breakfast of Champions is a track situates you on the edge of multiple emotions, somewhere between exhilaration and melancholic expansiveness. Simona and Various Asses are two of our favourite current Australian musicians opening up club space for experimental, performative and political exploration.
