Die! Die! Die! Share Racey Video for 'Bottlecaps and Phones (I Can't See You)' + Interview

Tuesday 10th October, 2017 1:50PM

Die! Die! Die! have shared a new video for current single 'Bottlecaps and Phones (I Can't See You)'. The track of course features on the trio's new album Charm. Offensive which they are celebrating with a nationwide tour starting this Thursday in Hamilton. A simple but visually quite stunning concept, the centre-point of the video is a car quipped with coloured burnout tyres which flood the warehouse setting in plumes of glorious pink smoke.

Here's the new video followed by a quick email interview with frontman Andrew Wilson about the new album, touring and some recommended listening..

Tell us a little about the new album and how it came about?  We understand a good chunk of it was recorded in a boat moored in the river Thames and the remainder completed at Space Monster in Whanganui?

I would describe the sound of this album as the most free and loose Die! Die! Die! album with an electronic undercurrent. I have struggled a lot with my own mental health over the years so I would be lying if I said that didn't play a huge part in the making of this record. This album really was the mix of some of the best times of my life and some of the worst. haha

We started recording this album in Byron Bay and tracked the rest of the record on the Lightship95 in London and then finished everything at Chicks hotel and in Whanganui at Space monster.

This will be your sixth album, how do you think the bands approach to recording has changed over time?

We don't sweat the small stuff like we have over the last few records.

You’re renowned for your hectic touring schedules. Where will this release tour be taking you? Are there any cool spots that you’ve yet to see?

This record we are touring China, UK, Europe, NZ, OZ and Russia.

Really want to tour India, Africa, South America and Mexico! There are a few plans in the works though!

What does the band get up to when you're not touring?

Both Mikey and I are studying and Rory is a Recording Engineer in London.

Your new video for single ‘Bottlecaps and Phones (I Can't See You) is great. What was the idea behind it and who was involved in the process of making the clip?

We have worked with Dylan (Pharazyn) off and on since 2004 and it was his idea. I trust him and I would hate to tell him what to do. It would be like if he told me what to do with my guitar.

Dylan managed to get an amazing warehouse in Mt Roskill and just had a lovely day in the rain.

We see you released a split 7 with Birdstriking recently featuring the single, tell us about that?

We have played shows with Birdstriking since 2011. I really love that band and their label Maybe Mars asked if we wanted to do a split 7inch. It took a long time to get together and has been in the works since 2014! haha

Do you have any new favourite bands from either here or abroad? What do they sound like?

I really loved Die! Chiwawa Die! on this recent tour to China who are sorta like Huggy Bear crossed with Melt Banana but a bit more hardcore. It has been awesome watching them and Birdstriking turn into such incredible bands. One of my favourite bands Evans the Death in London just broke up so I have been listening to their last album a lot and also been listening to a lot of Aldous Harding's album Party and also Maxine Funke's records on Bandcamp.
