Introverted Dancefloor Drops New Video 'When I'm Lonely'

Wednesday 11th October, 2017 1:42PM

Wellington beatmaker Introverted Dancefloor (Bevan Smith from Signer, Ruby Suns) has been quiet since his 2015 self-titled album but has just snuck out a minimal and engrossing new video for single 'When I'm Lonely'. The crisp clip by Rowan Pierce shows dancer Kosta Bogoievski moving though a variety of poses against a monocromatic backdrop, creating an 'uncanny valley' feeling somewhere between digital and analogue. The lush, densely layered track is a collaboration with Lower Hutt singer Benny's Videos and took over almost year to finish up. UTR caught up with Smith who shared his thoughts on the new video...

"Rowan Pierce and I wanted to use dance to represent a person being overwhelmed by loneliness and crushed by the weight of the world. Something light and breezy. We wanted it capture the attention of the viewer, but also be very minimal, voyeuristic and creepy.

In essence, it is a study of a dancer’s body in motion. We worked with Kosta Bogoievski to develop the concept. We started from a place of stillness and built up to repetitive movements to represent Kosta being compressed by immense weight. When filming, Rowan focused on the details of his body in motion to show muscles and skin through a plain and objective lens."
