Premiere: The Beths Share New Single 'Great No One'

Monday 16th October, 2017 9:43AM

Auckland guitar-pop group The Beths have unveiled the first single 'Great No One' from their forthcoming as-yet-untitled album in the form of a lyric video with a twist. The clip features the band having fun bopping around in the top corner of the screen while lyrics to the incredibly catchy tune encourage you to sing along. The band is heading out on a quick nationwide tour this month in support of the song, UTR caught up with The Beths' singer/guitarist Elizabeth Stokes to chat about the single and new album due early 2018...

"I started this song late last year but only finished it earlier this year, so it's one of our newest songs that will be on the record. Making an album is this weird thing that has taken us a long time to do, and I feel like for me, in the same way that you can hear a song and have it bring back a memory very vividly, I can almost plot on a graph where I was emotionally when we, for instant, tracked a specific guitar part or vocal part. And so listening back to the mixes, it's a bit of a roller coaster, and it's quite evident to me the kind of slow cycles my brain goes through. So 'Great No One' is kind of about that, about the voice in your head (my head) saying 'It's good, stop wasting time' and then 'It's garbage, stop trying', and trying to balance on that see-saw.

And the video was fun to make! We borrowed a green screen and a camera, and then I watched like fifty youtube tutorials on how to hang, light and shoot a green screen. And then we shot it, and then I watched like fifty youtube tutorials on how to use video editing software. Fun!"
