Chelsea Wolfe Announces New Zealand Tour

Monday 16th October, 2017 1:59PM

Gothic-folk/Doom queen Chelsea Wolfe is coming to New Zealand for the first time in March, on the heels of her highly anticipated and wonderfully dark fifth album Hiss Spun. The US artist's latest opus was engineered by producer-extraordinaire Kurt Ballou, who is best known for his guitar prowess in influential post-hardcore crew Converge and featured contributions from post-metal maverick Aaron Turner of ISIS and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age. Wolfe's live show is known to be a thrillingly cathartic experience, details below…

PRESS RELEASE:

LIFE IS NOISE is proud to announce the return of Chelsea Wolfe to Australia for her first full tour since 2012, as well as her first ever New Zealand shows.

Seamlessly fusing elements of gothic-rock, folk, and doom metal, Wolfe will be performing in Wellington, Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and finally Perth throughout March of 2018.

“Crucially, the aural barrage never overwhelms Wolfe's vocals, which remain the centrepiece – a counterpoint to doom and destruction that, at odds with her somewhat ghoulish onstage silhouette, veer between serenity, fragility and, occasionally, warmth. It's that human angle that keeps Wolfe's music compelling, even at its most doom-laden.” - The Quietus

Wolfe's music offers a combination of the delicate and the crushing, brooding and visceral, lyrically steeped in introspective dread. The end product is a winning formula that has earned Wolfe critical commendation for the best part of a decade. Her latest release, Hiss Spun, unveiled in September this year, is receiving similar praise.

“What Hiss Spun does, though it begins with a brutish feast and middles with a moment of tenderness, is draw us towards the liminal. It doesn't seek to make darkness visible, but rather exposes that which isn't supposed to be: the in-between. Wolfe works like torchlight shining into the forest at night, when the personality of leaves is changed.” - Drowned In Sound

Wolfe has garnered a considerably larger audience since her 2012 shows. With the release of the critically acclaimed Hiss Spun, it's expected that these shows will sell out quickly. Grab your tickets early - don't miss out.
