Christchurch digital pop singer and producer Laura Lee Lovely has followed up the release of her debut Eden EP with a lush and dreamy video for catchy single ‘Faster’. The clip was filmed by Ella Chau aka French Concession and features the artist dressed in a variety of glamorous outfits interacting with Christchurch’s post-quake environment; a highlight being spectacular guerrilla footage of her dancing in the middle of the overgrown AMI Stadium. Watch the new video below and read on for Laura Lee Lovely's comments on the origins of the track and her feelings about returning to her earthquake-ravaged hometown…

“Faster was written when I arrived back to Christchurch from the UK. The song was written with feelings of nostalgia, triggered from being back in Christchurch after so long, reflecting on the past and the changes that have occurred since then. When I left I was in a different chapter of my life, I lived away from Christchurch over the time of the earthquakes, when I came back it was heartbreaking to see all of the buildings I grew up around still broken and some not there. The people here have been so strong and it made me so proud to be from here.

I wanted to make a visual for the song and approached Ella Chau who makes her own videos for her musical project ' French Concession'. We wanted to make something that was easy to do on a limited budget and wanted to have fun so we just kind of winged it and shot a few scenes that worked with the music. We made the whole video ourselves with the help from a few amazing friends who braved the freezing wind and rain. By the end of the day we couldn't feel out bodies and I was completely pale, any makeup that I had attempted to wear had come off so we went to Space Academy to warm up before shooting the last scene.

We went around and shot in some of my favorite places that I used to visit as a kid and some new places that are now a part of my life and are important for our community, it was important for me to produce something that felt familiar and held some weight behind it but had a positive uplifting feeling. I also feel like even though the buildings are still damaged and there are these big empty dead spaces, people here are putting the life back into the city so I also felt like I needed to reflect that somehow.”

Laura Lee Lovely’s new EP 'Eden' is out now via Bandcamp.
