Premiere: Wellington's Erith Unveils New Single 'Talk'

Thursday 9th November, 2017 10:28AM

Wellington songwriter Erith (Kelly Harrison) has followed up her popular debut single 'Weak' with dark and brooding sophomore song 'Talk’. A collaboration with UK production duo Donny Hills and Pelorus, the track is a meeting of Harrison’s plaintive singing and melodic guitar lines with bass-heavy beat production aimed squarely at club sound systems. We caught up with Harrison who dished the dirt on her new single, listen to our exclusive premiere of ‘Talk’ and read her comments below…

”I try really hard to be a writer first and foremost and tell a story and be a bit mysterious about that story with my lyrics. With 'Talk' I wrote what for me were some really simple words and they seemed to fit over this guitar melody I've had for nearly 3 or 4 years.

It's definitely a darker track than 'Weak' but I think its dynamics sort of play into that, and maybe hide the darkness of what I'm actually saying at times. I'm super thankful for Donny Hills for helping add that dynamic and bringing a new light to the chorus, and of course Pelorus for his mark on it too.

I haven't played any live shows since I started making electronic music so that's definitely something to plan for the future, and to release something as a collection whether that be an EP or a record. But especially in the new year I'll be branching out into some lighter stuff and having a bit more fun with my sound, which won't just be a new thing for people listening, (it'll also be) a whole new territory in regards to my writing. It will of course have remnants of heartbreak and many many vocal layers.”
