Live Photos + Review: Flight Facilities - The Powerstation, Auckland
On Friday night Australian electronic duo Flight Facilities transformed the Powerstation into a sweaty, sold-out blue light disco. Young oonst-pop fans were jumping on each other's shoulders, leaping onto the stage, bouncing vigorously and singing along; couples were pashing, bug-eyed and buoyant from something more than the venue's beers.
Flight Facilities were good sports and party DJs indeed, seamlessly segueing from their own catalog to covers of Drake's 'Passionfruit', Blondie and MJ's 'Don't Stop Till You Get Enough'. The sea of young punters got even wilder. They played their own "bangers" too of course: 'Crave You', 'Stranded' and 'Arty Boy'. The live vocalists were proficient, but didn't bring as much to the show as one would've expected. The set design and lighting were quite spectacular - Friday night with Flight Facilities is what the contemporary rave really looks like. Sadly, it's the kind of thing you need to be geared up for, for it to really take off.
