Auckland songwriter Reb Fountain won big at last night's New Zealand Country Music Awards in Gore, scooping up 2018 Recorded Music NZ Best Country Music Artist and APRA Best Country Music Song for her moving single 'Hopeful & Hopeless'. The song was was among our favourite tunes of 2017 and is taken from her EP of the same name, which drew on material written in collaboration with sadly departed Auckland artist Sam Prebble (Bond Street Bridge Band). Fountain is celebrating with the release of a stylish new video directed by Briar March you can enjoy here, South Islanders can catch the artist playing at Queenstown venue the Sherwood this coming Saturday 2nd of June. Fountain shared a statement about her iconic song...

"'Hopeful and Hopeless' is a song about people like us, or people less fortunate than us just doing the best they can, trying to get by... But it’s also a song that helped me find my sense of strength and hope and community when I thought that everything was lost. Of all of the songs I’ve written, this song reminds me most of the mighty mariner Sam Prebble, and even though he has passed, he is very present with me every time I play it, so to win best APRA Country Music Song for this means the world to me.”

'Hopeful & Hopeless' is out now via Southbound Records.
