Premiere: Death And The Maiden Share Video 'Mercury' + Announce Tour

Thursday 2nd August, 2018 11:06AM

Dunedin trio Death And The Maiden's long-awaited second studio album Wisteria has been a sleeper hit of 2018, creeping into our collective subconscious with its woozy blend of shadowy dream-pop guitars and haunted electronic beat-worship. The team of Lucinda King, Hope Robertson and Danny Brady have now announced a three date mini-tour to celebrate the release of their sublime new record, and to sweeten the deal they've thrown in a mesmerising video for their single 'Mercury' directed by Chris Schmelz. The artful visuals depict King intoning the song against grainy looping footage of local flora and fauna to hypnotic effect. Schmelz shared some words on the construction of the clip...

"The music video for 'Mercury' was made using multiple super 8 and 16mm films projected into one another. A found 16mm film was used to create the loop present throughout the video, and the other films used (including that projected onto Lucinda's face), are all expired super 8 film stock that I have shot myself."

Along with Wellington and Christchurch dates, Death And The Maiden will be making a highly anticipated appearance at Auckland's multi-venue The Others Way festival in late August. Grip their mini-tour info here and watch the video for 'Mercury' below...
