Premiere: Eden Mulholland Unveils Single 'The Vanishing'

Thursday 25th October, 2018 11:59AM

Western Australia-based expat songsmith Eden Mulholland (Motorcade) has returned with an effervescent standalone single titled 'The Vanishing'. Overflowing with snakelike hooks and soaring vocal melodies, the new song sees Mulholland channel his love of cranking rock riffage into a slyly catchy, soulful guitar-pop number not worlds away from the infectious works of songwriting wizards Liam and Elroy Finn. A wearer of many creative hats, the singer, producer, composer, video director, graphic artist and contemporary dancer has announced shows in Perth and Freemantle with New Zealand pop icon Dave Dobbyn this November. Mulholland reflected on his latest release and forthcoming artistic endevours, read his words and wrap your ears around 'The Vanishing' below...

"The Vanishing is a much less serious song for me than normal I think. Subconsciously inspired by my adolescent, Soundgarden loving self I suppose. A love song for the disaffected soul. It’s a really fun song to sing at the top of your lungs. I wrote and recorded the demo at home in Perth. I sent the session to Jol in Auckland who added live drums (Adam Tobeck), synths and back vocals at The Lab in Auckland. Jol then mixed it and it was mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301."

On Nov 3 and 4 I'm ticking off a major bucket list gig - supporting the mighty Dave Dobbyn in Perth and Fremantle, Western Australia where I currently live. Also I'm showcasing at the WAMfest conference on the same weekend. Then I jump on a plane back home to Wellington to rehearse and finalise the music which I'm very proud to have written for the Armistice commemoration held at the National Ceremony at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park on 11 Nov - which marks the centenary of the end of the First World War in 1918. The creative performance is called He Wawā Waraki: Roaring Chorus 2018, directed by Malia Johnton, a performance with 30 dancers, a 50 piece Air Force Band, 8 drummers and a choir. EPIC!

Then in December I head to Nadi in Fiji to compose music and collaborate with Sarah Foster and the amazing Vou Dance company towards a new work to be presented in 2019."

Eden Mulholland plays at WAMFEST Official showcase at Perth's Yagan Square at 1pm on Saturday 3rd November, and Perth's Rosemount Hotel that same day with Dave Dobbyn, and is playing at Fremantle's Mojos on Sunday 4th November with Dave Dobbyn. For details head along to his website here.
